Work & residence permits

The right scheme makes all the difference.

Denmark has several routes to a work permit, each with its own requirements and processing time. The choice of scheme decides both how fast it goes and how much documentation you need. We always look for the fastest route that fits.

The Pay Limit Scheme For higher-salary roles. No requirement on profession or education - as long as the salary meets the threshold, which is adjusted each year, and is genuine and paid monthly.
The Positive List For professions Denmark is short of. Often faster than the Pay Limit Scheme, with no separate salary threshold. The list is updated twice a year.
The Fast Track Scheme For certified companies. The quickest route, sometimes down to a few weeks. The company first has to be certified with SIRI.
The Researcher scheme For researchers and highly qualified staff. Often combined with the researcher tax scheme, which lets you pay a flat 27% tax for a period - a real advantage when moving here.
The Establishment Card For recent graduates of Danish universities, and for entrepreneurs establishing a business in Denmark.
Interns & trainees For international interns and trainees with a concrete agreement in place.
Good to know

Schemes, salary thresholds and processing times change regularly. We confirm the current terms for your specific case before you rely on them - and stay in contact with SIRI along the way where it helps.

Settling in

The permit is only the first step.

Once the permit is granted, real life in Denmark begins. We guide you through the practical things that trip most people up - so your first weeks here feel calm, not chaotic.

01

CPR & residence card

Registering when you arrive, and getting your residence card and CPR number in the right order.

02

Tax & the 27% scheme

Whether you qualify for the researcher tax scheme, and how the Danish tax system works for you.

03

Family reunification

Bringing your partner and children, with the documentation prepared so the application holds.

04

Renewals in time

Starting the renewal well before your permit expires, so you never lose your basis to stay.

05

Getting started

MitID, a doctor, a bank - the everyday first steps, pointed out in the right sequence.

06
